iPad as an eReader

by William

Yesterday, I talked about the iPad as a gaming device. Today I am going to view the iPad under a different light– as an ereader. To tell the truth, this excites me greatly. I already read ebooks on the iPhone (using GoodReader). I assume the iPhone OS is the same/similar to the iPad OS and so I will use the terms interchangeably. The controls are natural, the loading times are quick and the display is beautiful. There are several minor annoyances: the screen is too small and the eye strain is too great. However with the iPad those problems should be gone. Several benefits of the iPad:

1) its “Touch”. th Notion Ink Adam has a “laggy” interface. You do one action and then wait a second and watch it complete. The iPhone does not have this problem. The response is natural and good ergonomically speaking.

2) File support and software. The iPhone (with an external app) can support a wide variety of files: .pdf/.cbr/.ppt. The best thing is the contrast levels can be regulated for day time and night time use (and to save battery)

3) Software. When buying an iPad you’re not just buying an eReader — your buying a complete entertainment device! If you don’t like reading ebooks — just listen to audiobooks.
